Let me tell you the BEST KEPT money secret I know you’ve NEVER heard of: the I-Bond.

The cash in your bank account’s making you about 0.02% annually in interest.

If you move it into an inflation-protected U.S. savings bond, the annualized return becomes 3.54% - 177x. And unlike meme stocks or crypto, buying an “I bond” is almost risk-free and delivers tax advantages.

I bonds offer a guarantee from the U.S. government that you can recover your original capital plus any increases in the official cost of living, and are exempt from state and local income tax.

You’ve never heard of it because financial advisers aren’t incentivized to sell them, no commission cuz they’re only available from the U.S. government.

There are a few drawbacks -

  • you can’t put more than $10k in per year

  • the rate can fluctuate

  • you can’t cash out until you’ve held for 12 months

  • if you cash out within the first five years, you’ll forfeit the last three months of interest.

This is a great tool if you’re risk averse and have some extra cash sitting around, or if you’re a big risk taker, because it’ll help safeguard some of your assets—to protect against the big losses that big risks can lead to.
