How to Apply for Biden Student Loan Forgiveness

TLDR: If you make less than $125k, you may be eligble to apply for loan forgiveness in early Oct 2022.

What You Need to Do for Free Money:

  1. The application will be available early Oct 2022. Sign up to get notified from Office of Student Aid as soon as the application is available.

  2. Visit the https://studentaid.gov/ to login into your account and view your loans.

**PS: This is the same login as the one that you used to fill out your FAFSA in college. It's an easy reset if you forget!

  3. Look for signs about "The Biden-Harris Administration’s Student Debt Relief Plan"

  4. When the Dept of Education releases the application... WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND FILLING IT OUT BEFORE NOVEMBER 15TH, so that your loan forgiveness is processed before the student debt repayment freeze ends at the end of the year.

Helpful Hints & Application Advice

  • The Biden Harris Student Debt Relief Plan is NOT same as the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Act. The website can be kind of confusing, but just note that the Public Service Loan forgiveness is debt relief for government & non-profit workers specifically.

  • It’s worth mentioning that you will have to go through the government Federal Student Aid Office (FSA) to get your debt relief. For reimbursements with your past payments, contact your loan providers directly.
